Eight weeks is a short period of time to consolidate educational trips, presentations, lessons, and networking opportunities…but we did it! After meeting 36 professionals, touring the White House and teaching how to make money work for the fellows; Avery Martin Chadwick (my Co-Coordinator) and I could not imagine the program running any better. Mondays were the most surprising, because the fellows were super eager to learn… even at 9:00am on a Monday. Visiting professional environments was a revolutionary experience for our fellows on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, bringing a drive and excitement to their pursuit of their dreams. Collective favorites were Clear Channel and the Philadelphia 76ers, they were able to meet, interact with employees of the organizations and see the live, behind the scenes, hard work and dedication that goes into their favorite radio station and basketball team. To their surprise both work environments were young and fun, not what they expected. During the program, Avery and I were able to witness first hand their growth. We can’t say that it was easy, but it was definitely fulfilling. I firmly believe in empowering our youth and making an immediate impact on 13 adolescents was the highlight of my summer. On Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 5:30pm, we will be overjoyed to see all 13 of our Interns receive a certificate of completion. They have a bright future ahead of them and we are delighted that they decided to spend their summer with us.
